Full Biography
Born as Cécile Defrance on July 17, 1975, in Namur, Belgium, the acclaimed actress discovered her passion for performing at the early age of six. At 17, she moved to Paris to pursue a career in theater, studying under Jean-Paul Denizon before attending the prestigious acting academy ENSATT.
Her career trajectory took a significant turn when she was discovered by agent Dominique Besnehard, leading to her breakout role in the 2002 hit L'Auberge Espagnole, which earned her a César Award for Most Promising Actress. She quickly gained international recognition for her lead role in the intense horror-thriller High Tension (2003) and subsequently made her Hollywood debut in Around the World in 80 Days (2004) alongside Jackie Chan.
Known for her versatility, Cécile has balanced mainstream success with arthouse prestige, working with world-class directors such as the Dardenne brothers in The Kid with a Bike and Clint Eastwood in Hereafter. In addition to her film work, she has appeared in major television productions like The Young Pope and the ecological thriller The Swarm.
