Renate von Wangenheim (born Renate Reinecke) was a distinguished German actress known for her extensive work in East German (GDR) cinema and television. She was born on April 21, 1944, in Wendgräben, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

The daughter of actor Horst Reinecke, she initially performed under her maiden name, Renate Reinecke. Her career spanned several decades, during which she became a familiar face in numerous DEFA-Stiftung films and popular TV series produced by the DDR-Fernsehen. Her notable screen credits include roles in the long-running crime series Polizeiruf 110, the aviation drama Flugstaffel Meinecke (1989), and the historical film The Fall of O. (Der Fall Ö., 1991).

Beyond the screen, she was an accomplished stage actress with engagements at prestigious venues such as the Hans Otto Theater in Potsdam and the Berliner Ensemble. She was married to the actor and dramaturg Friedel von Wangenheim, whose family had deep roots in the German theatrical and cinematic tradition. Renate von Wangenheim passed away on December 19, 2016, at the age of 72.
