Story

The heroes of this film are hands and a violin. We won’t see the hero's face, but we’ll notice a special relationship that exists between the musician and the instrument. It resembles real love. The man is able to make the inanimate instrument a living instrument.

Summary

Maria and Tom's seemingly idyllic life in a small Polish town is shattered when the mayor, secretly obsessed with Maria, rapes her. Despite the severity of the assault, Maria decides against reporting it to the police, fearing scandal and unwanted attention. She also keeps the incident from Tom, unwilling to burden him or jeopardize their happy home they've carefully decorated together, awaiting the birth of their child. This silence, however, proves corrosive, casting a shadow over their once-peaceful marriage as Maria's secret slowly poisons their love.
