Story

Justine, a young virgin from an orphanage, leaves her cloistered life and enters the depraved world of prostitution, sexual perversion, and sadistic torture. She faces branding, bondage, and the corrupting influence of a monk who manipulates her innocence. Meanwhile, Justine's sister Juliette leads a promiscuous life but experiences happiness and rewards for her behavior. Justine finds hope in Lord Carlisle, one of Juliette's former lovers, believing he might save her from her torments.

Summary

Cruel Passion (1977), directed by Chris Boger, is an adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's novel 'Justine'. The film explores themes of innocence corrupted, sexual perversion, and the moral ambiguities surrounding Justine's descent into depravity. Set against the backdrop of 18th-century France, it contrasts Justine's virtuous but misguided naivety with her sister Juliette's liberated and hedonistic lifestyle. Despite its controversial content, the film offers a critique of societal norms and hypocrisy through the story of two sisters whose lives diverge dramatically.
