Story
Psychologist Chris Kelvin travels to the isolated research space station orbiting the mysterious planet Solaris after receiving a distress signal. Upon arrival, he finds that the crew is experiencing strange phenomena and are terrified. The crew members tell him that their loved ones have appeared on the station as physical manifestations of their memories, brought about by the planet's ocean which seems to have telepathic abilities. Kelvin soon encounters his own dead wife, who died eight years prior. He struggles with this reality and tries to communicate with her while also attempting to find a solution for the crew's predicament.
Summary
Steven Soderbergh's 'Solaris' is an adaptation of Stanisław Lem's novel of the same name, previously filmed by Andrei Tarkovsky in 1972. Set in the near future, this psychological science fiction film explores themes of grief, loss, and reality through Kelvin's journey to understand and cope with his wife's manifestation. The movie delves into the human mind and its ability to create illusions based on memory and desire.
