Summary
'Brutalist' (2024) is a historical drama film directed by Brady Corbet, set during the post-World War II era in Pennsylvania, USA. The movie follows an innovative Hungarian-Jewish architect who, after surviving the Holocaust, immigrates to the US with his wife. They aim to rebuild their lives and careers in the land of opportunity, but their journey is marked by exploitation, sexual assault, drug addiction, and the tragic death of their mother. Despite these challenges, they find inspiration in the architectural movement known as Brutalism, seeking to create meaningful structures that reflect their experiences. The film explores themes of immigration, identity, art, capitalism, and the American Dream through a somber and pretentious lens, with some scenes shot at Ellis Island, New York City, Venice, Italy, and Carrara.
